Earthquakes have caused some of the highest death tolls in human history, but thanks to a Purdue program, that could change soon.
Andrew Freed, an associate professor for Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences, traveled to Haiti a week after the devastating earthquake in January of 2010. What he saw there is unfathomable to most Americans.
“I saw people digging through the rubble for loved ones,” Freed said. “I saw homeless (people) everywhere. It looked like bombs had fallen.”
