WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Exponent) -

More than 600 million people were affected by a historic blackout in India earlier this week, and Indian graduate students certainly took notice.

Samiran Ganguly, a graduate student made contact with his parents in his home state of Uttar Pradesh on Monday. Ganguly wrote in an email that his parents had a tough time comprehending the magnitude of the situation.

“They just kind of complained that there is a big problem.” Ganguly wrote. “They didn’t really know that this was so big because, quite obviously, they couldn’t get any news and thought this was more of a local issue.”
