WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Exponent) - The University Senate met on Monday for its first meeting of the semester, with President Mitch Daniels presenting his opening remarks.

Led by J. Paul Robinson, chair of the University Senate, the meeting began with Daniels discussing his role and the future of the University Senate. But more importantly, Daniels addressed the issue of implementing a trimester system to significantly increase the rate of students being able to graduate in four years.

“I want the whole notion of the trimester (to) be an effective use of the summer months with two objectives: one, student success and second, use of the capacity of students’ needs,” Daniels said. “I want to provide greater opportunity for students’ success and vigorous use of the summer months.”
