WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Exponent) - The people who defaced Dr. Cornell Bell’s portrait and the people who wrote the word “nigger” on a whiteboard in Krannert do not deserve their Purdue diplomas, a presenter said.
The room was filled with awe and agreement when Susan Curtis, a professor of history, spoke Tuesday night on the issue of diversity in higher education. “Imagining and Fostering Diversity in the 21st Century University” was part of a lecture series hosted by the course HONR 299, “The Idea of the University.”
Curtis began explaining her lecture was actually written almost exactly a year ago. She wrote the lecture in response to the defacement of Bell’s portrait in the Krannert Building.
