WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Exponent) - Purdue’s Best Buddies Club creates real friendships between college students and adults with intellectual disabilities.
The goal of Best Buddies is to facilitate inclusion of adults with disabilities, and Purdue’s chapter seems to be successful. The club achieves this goal by pairing members with a compatible buddy and allowing the pair to grow and learn from one another.
Not only do members attend monthly meetings with their buddies, they create friendships that involve texting, giving advice, and having fun. Best Buddies President Katherine Nanninga said she and her buddy Joey play basketball together on the weekends or go bowling.
