Kristin Maiorano - NewsChannel 18

Kristin Maiorano joined WLFI in January 2010 from the suburbs of Chicago. A lifelong resident of Illinois, she grew up in Vernon Hills and attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she majored in broadcast journalism. She spent most of 2008 working as a producer at WICD-TV in Champaign, then decided to return to the Chicago area to continue her education. She earned her Master's in Journalism from Northwestern University in December 2009.

While journalism has been a fairly recent passion in her life, Kristin has always been known to love learning, performing and asking lots and lots of questions! Whether she was interviewing her family on a cassette recorder in second grade or anchoring the "Stevenson Network News" in high school, broadcasting has long been in her blood.

Kristin got her official start in broadcast at her college radio station, WPGU-FM, in August 2005. She tried on a variety of roles at the station--reporter, anchor, producer--and eventually ended up as the Managing Editor for the Daily Illini's On Air department, where she supervised about 50 reporters, producers and editors.

Her first taste of television was as an intern at Chicago's WGN-TV in 2007. Beyond meeting Bill Clinton and getting to do interviews in the Cubs' locker room, Kristin realized TV is where she wanted to be.

Here at News Channel 18, Kristin is a multi-platform journalist, meaning she shoots and edits video, writes and reports stories on air and posts her stories here at wlfi.com. Kristin also anchors and produces the weekend newscasts

When she's not chasing stories across west central Indiana, Kristin enjoys reading, watching movies, spending time with friends, jogging and doing yoga. She's trying her hand at cooking, though not always successfully. And she loves driving up to Chicago to spend time with her parents, sister and standard poodle Chiffon.

Kristin welcomes your story ideas! Please send them her way at news18@wlfi.com.
