Title: Meteorologist

Amber joined the WLFI family in April of 2013 and is our weekend meteorologist.

Amber used to be quite scared of severe weather when she was a child. Any time a tornado watch was issued, she says she would put all her toys and clothes in the basement. She also constantly watched the local weather station when she was younger and eventually, her fear of severe weather turned into a passion.

“I was age 7 when I wanted to become a broadcast meteorologist, and I am thrilled that I have achieved my childhood dream!” Amber said.

Amber was born and raised a Speedway Sparkplug from Speedway, Ind., and attended Ball State University where she received a bachelor’s of science in meteorology and climatology.

Before working at WLFI, Amber was an assistant in the Ball State Meteorology and Climatology Lab for a year. She also worked at the Ball State Campus radio station WCRD 91.3 FM as a weather forecaster for a year and participated in Newslink Indiana, which is Ball State’s television news station, as a weather forecaster.

Amber was also a weather intern at WISH-TV 8 Indianapolis and was a summer volunteer with the National Weather Service of Northern Indiana (IWX).

In her spare time, Amber enjoys storm chasing, spending time with her family, cooking/baking, reading, exercising, hiking (being outdoors), playing her drum set and participating in water sports.

She has one dog, Maddy (Border collie), but she calls her “Princess” because she is “spoiled rotten.”

Amber’s favorite sport to watch is football.

“I LOVE football season,” she said.

Her favorite teams include the Chicago Bears and the Indianapolis Colts.

When asked if there was anything else she wanted to share with her new viewers, Amber said:

“I storm chased for two weeks in the Great Plains during the summer of 2012 for a field observation course offered by Ball State University. I plan on using the skills I have obtained from my storm chasing experience for when severe weather strikes in our area. I was involved with the Ball State Storm Chase Team throughout my college career and was the executive secretary for 2 years.”

Amber is sure of one other thing: She’s thrilled to join WLFI.

Her favorite quote is: “Life’s not about waiting for the storm to pass… It’s about learning to dance in the rain!” -Vivian Greene
