WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI)-- A program for young racers has them staying on track in competition and in school.

Nexgeneracers is a youth motorsports program that uses go-kart driving to help develop life-skills. Racers competed around the track at Purdue University for their best times.

The program incorporates math, science and other educational skills for the drivers to calculate their speed.

Director Rod Reid said this group gives students the chance to think about their future.

"Some of them come from pretty basic living conditions in Indianapolis," Reid said. "To be here at Purdue is very inspiring to them."

Other events for NXG are held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, State Fairgrounds, and Purdue University.
