AMERICUS, Ind. (WLFI) — A woman has to get her fuel pump replaced after getting gas at "Ameri Mart" gas station in Americus.
Katharine Treece said shorty after her husband put gas in her car, it would not start. They took the car to a local body shop where she was told hers was the sixth car in a row with water in the gas tank.
"Completely inconvenient for us, it makes it very hard not to mention the gas prices now because he's having to do double, triple trips," said Treece.
A new owner took over the gas station on February 1. Mahesh Patel said everything has been tested properly and there is not water in the gas.
"I'm not saying they didn't get water in their car, I'm saying it's unlikely it came from here," said Patel.
Mahesh Patel said he has invested a lot in the Ameri Mart gas station.
"When we took over this place, obviously it needed a lot of improvements and so far what we've done is what we thought was the most important thing," said Patel.
One of the first things he did, was install spill buckets. Patel said those would make it very hard for water to ever get inside a fuel tank.
"Every day we get a report that says pass pass or fail or whatever case may be," said Patel.
He showed News 18 those reports. He said taking over a business in such a tight-knit community hasn't been easy.
"Some people are very receptive to the changes, some people are not, over time they will see that this is a positive change and they will come around," said Patel.
