Lafayette, IN (WLFI) — The McCutcheon High School academic spell bowl team is gearing up for their biggest competition yet.
The 26th annual Indiana Academic Spell Bowl State Finals are this weekend, and McCutcheon is hoping to take home a title.

This is the first year McCutcheon has ever qualified for state. Only the top nine schools in McCutcheon's division qualified for this Saturday's state competition.

Cindy Aubuchon has been coaching the team ever since she could remember. As the team prepares for state, she has a few words of advice.

"Go with your gut, do not erase, and have fun. Be proud that you're there," Aubuchon said.

The state competition will take place this Saturday at Purdue's Loeb Playhouse starting at 11 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.
