LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) -- The Lafayette Police Department is gearing up for the annual downtown Christmas Parade.

The Greater Lafayette Commerce will host the parade Dec. 2 starting at 5:30 pm. LPD is teaming up with emergency management groups along with the Lafayette Fire Department. The groups expect to have more security for this year's event.

LPD will notify surrounding businesses and home owners of irregular parking and traffic prior to the parade. The route will run on Main Street from 11th Street and will end on 2nd Street.

Sgt. Will Carpenter said showing up early will benefit all parade goers.

"Expect to have a more difficult time to find parking and then obviously with the amount of people we saw last year, expect if you're there and you want to get a good viewing position you might want to get there early," said Carpenter.

In addition to the parade route, the staging area for the parade will be West of Erie, North of Ferry, and East of 10th Streets downtown. These areas will be cleared of previously parked vehicles in preparation for the parade.
