LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — A Lafayette man is facing bribery charges after allegedly offering a West Lafayette Police Officer thousands of dollars to avoid jail.

According to Prosecutors, the officer smelled marijuana coming from Brian Spencer's vehicle on September first. Spencer told the officer he did have a small amount of marijuana and a handgun under his seat, but that he did not possess a valid permit to carry.

Documents say Spencer then offered seven thousand dollars to the officer to overlook the situation.
The officer then located a large sum of money, marijuana and a handgun in Spencer's vehicle.
