LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — To accommodate growth in the city of Lafayette, at least four city offices could be moving to a new location.

The city owns just over 12 acres of land on McCarty Lane across from CAT Park.

Currently, the lot sits empty but plans are in the works to build a facility to house the Street Department, Traffic and Fleet Maintenance facilities and the Parks Department.

Lafayette City Engineer, Jeromy Grenard said the city is exploring other options, but so far this makes the most sense.

"Because of this growth, we've outgrown some of our facilities we have now and they have aged so we are looking at that site as a potential for moving those there and then we would re-purpose the existing sites," said Grenard.

A timeline for construction and contracts for this project was discussed at a Board of Works Meeting.  As for how soon the city plans to make the move, Grenard said that has yet to be determined.
