Guest speakers also touched on the history of flight and how the industry has changed over the years. Austin Decker said Saturday's event gives prospective students and people from the community an uncommon opportunity.

"So it's a great opportunity to show the world what we do here as students here at aviation tech," said Decker. "They'll be able to see all kinds of variety of different large aircraft, airlines, a UH 60 from the Army, and we have plenty of guest speakers to give insight, into the aviation industry."

Purdue welcomed 17,000 people to its first aviation day in 1911. After nearly 100 years, the Aviation Department restarted the event in 2016.
