Encompass Credit Union announced their plan to donate $100,000 to the project on Monday while the Farmers Bank plans to donate $150,000 to the park project.

In February, the Clinton County Community Foundation donated $250,000.

Local companies have now donated a total of $650,000 to the project.

Frankfort mayor Chris McBarnes said he isn't surprised by the generosity.

"It shows the heart and the depth and the breath of this community and Frankfort is on the move," said McBarnes.

The park will be along the creek on the North side of East Washington Street. Once completed the park will have a dog park, playground equipment and an area for performances.

McBarnes said the new greenspace is already encouraging growth downtown.

"With these announcements happening businesses are reaching out to me, storefronts are filling up, people are going to move to Frankfort, new subdivisions are going to be built in Frankfort and at the end of the day we are going to make Frankfort a great place to live," sad McBarnes.

The Prairie Creek Park project is expected to cost $3.5 million to $4 million in total with the rest of the money coming from existing public funds.

Construction on the park is expected to begin this summer with a ribbon cutting expected for the 2019 Hotdog Festival.
