He's accused of killing his ex-girlfriend Heather Smith and setting her house on fire in 2016.

Digital evidence is helping clear up some doubt in the murder case. Phone records are a key piece of evidence in this trial.

On Friday, it cleared a man Kincade's defense was starting to question during the trial.

He was supposed to meet Heather Smith around the time of her alleged murder.

But AT&T call time stamps show that man wasn't near Smith's house when the fire was set.

However, a witness says she saw Kincade leaving Smith's house in her car near the home around that time.

At 12:40 on the day of the murder Kincade tried to put his phone's SIM card in another phone.

Police argue that was an attempt to cover his tracks.

However, Chief Investigator Sean Leshney with the Tippecanoe County High Tech Crime Unit says that didn't work.
