WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Exponent) - A former surgeon general came to Purdue Tuesday night and gave his insight into why the United States needs to focus more attention on fostering leadership in young people if we wish to see improvements to the lifestyle of Americans.
David Satcher has a distinguished career in public health and has received several awards from all over the United States for his work. After earning his M.D. and Ph.D he practiced medicine and was president of a college before becoming the 16th surgeon general of the United States.
During his service, he stressed the importance of public health and safety, and he still remains active after leaving the office. Now he focuses on eliminating racial and ethnic discrimination in the health world.
